Splash Financial Personal Loans Review

Splash Financial is an online lending marketplace that connects borrowers with loans offered by banks and credit unions across the country. Originally focused on student loan refinancing, Splash has since expanded into personal loans and HELOCs.

Their marketplace model allows borrowers to compare multiple offers through a single application, with personal loans ranging from $1,000 to $100,000. While the wide loan range is attractive, the exact terms, fees and eligibility requirements can vary significantly depending on the partner lender.

Loan Options

  • Splash Financial offers unsecured personal loans between $1,000 and $100,000. Four states set a higher floor: the minimum is $3,001 in Georgia, $5,000 in New Mexico and Ohio and $6,000 in Massachusetts.

  • Loan lengths range from 2 to 7 years.

  • Splash Financial acts as a marketplace rather than a direct lender, so eligibility criteria and servicing can vary depending on the lending partner. Cosigners are the exception: none of their lenders accept one.

  • Where the offer comes from a credit union, you may be asked to join that credit union before the loan can be funded.

  • Loans cannot be used for real estate, securities or other investments, business purposes, post-secondary education or bridge financing.

Interest & Fees

  • APR: Splash Financial advertises fixed APRs ranging from 8.99% to 35.99%, depending on creditworthiness and the lender selected. Their published range is dated, so it is worth checking it against the date on the page.

  • Origination Fees: Personal loans offered through the Splash network have an origination fee of 0% to 15%, deducted from the loan proceeds. That upper bound is high for the market, and because the fee is set by whichever partner funds you, it is not knowable before you apply.

  • Prepayment Penalty: There is no prepayment penalty for any loan funded through the Splash marketplace.

  • Late Payment: Fees and grace periods depend on the issuing lender.

  • Unsuccessful Payment: Returned payment fees may apply depending on the lender and your banking institution.

  • Discounts: Some partners offer an autopay discount, typically 0.25%. Splash's advertised floor assumes it, and applies only to the shortest loan term.

Example

Splash's published example is a $10,000 loan over 36 months at a 14.32% interest rate with a 5% origination fee. The fee takes $500, so $9,500 reaches your account, and you repay $343.33 a month at an APR of 17.98%. Open the same figures in our payment calculator.

How long to receive funds?

This is the one place where Splash's headline and their own small print disagree, and the gap is wide. The personal loans page advertises funding "in as little as one business day". The footnote attached to that claim says something rather different: "it typically takes one to two business days to receive funds. However, funding may take up to two weeks."

One to two business days is the realistic expectation and two weeks is the outside case, so treat the headline as a best case rather than a plan. A marketplace adds a step other lenders do not have, because the partner lender runs its own review after Splash hands the application over.

Geographical Availability

Splash Financial personal loans are available in most US states, though availability and loan terms vary depending on the partner lender. Splash hold lending licences in 35 states, and Vermont residents are served a notice that Splash is a loan solicitor rather than the lender.

Loan Eligibility

Splash Financial does not set a minimum credit score, because the partner lender does. Their own guidance suggests aiming for 680 or higher, while noting that a lower score may still qualify at a higher rate. Borrowers can check rates through a soft credit inquiry, which will not impact their credit score; a hard pull follows once you submit an application.

Income Requirements

No publicly stated minimum income requirement.

Are they legit?

Yes. Splash Financial, Inc. (NMLS #1630038) is a financial technology company founded in 2013 and headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. It is not a direct lender but instead operates a marketplace that connects borrowers with loans issued by banks and credit unions, which is why their Vermont disclosure states in capitals that Splash is not the lender.

Splash initially focused on student loan refinancing before expanding into personal loans and other financial products. In September 2025 they raised more than $70 million in a Series C round led by Grand Oaks Capital, bringing total equity funding past $135 million against more than $6 billion of loans processed.

Reviews & News

At the time of writing, Splash Financial had approximately 91% 5-star reviews on Trustpilot from just over 2,400 reviews, with an average rating of 4.9/5.

On their A+ accredited BBB profile, they have an average rating of 2.33/5 from just 3 reviews, alongside 8 complaints over three years and 2 closed in the last year. The number of customer reviews is unusually low compared to other personal loan providers, so read it as a handful of accounts rather than a pattern.

What those few accounts describe is servicing rather than the loan itself: payments and payoffs being hard to manage through the self-service portal, a payoff still showing as outstanding with the credit bureaus weeks later, and underwriting running past the advertised timeline.

Do They Report to the Credit Bureaus?

Yes, though the reporting is done by whichever partner funds the loan rather than by Splash, so the details are set out in your credit agreement rather than by Splash themselves. Loans through the Splash network are generally reported to the three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Regular on-time payments may help build your credit score, while missed payments may negatively affect it.

Get in touch

Splash run two support lines: general enquiries on (800) 349-3938, Monday-Friday 9am-9pm EST, and borrower support for active loans on (877) 357-5756, Monday-Friday 9am-8pm EST. Email reaches them at contact@splashfinancial.com for applications and servicing@splashfinancial.com for a funded loan, and online chat is staffed Monday-Friday 10am-8pm EST. Their contact page lists all of these.

What we like?

Large loan amounts: Splash Financial offer personal loans up to $100,000, which is significantly higher than many competitors. This flexibility could appeal to borrowers financing large expenses such as home improvements or debt consolidation.

Check your rate: Borrowers can check their rate through Splash Financial without impacting their credit score. A single application may return multiple offers from different lending partners, making it easier to compare rates and terms.

Marketplace model: Splash Financial's marketplace approach may help borrowers access lenders and credit unions they would not have otherwise considered. This could potentially improve approval chances or produce more competitive offers.

Autopay discount: Some partners take 0.25% off the rate for paying automatically each month. It is not offered by every lender on the network, and Splash's lowest advertised rate assumes you take it on the shortest term.

What we don't like?

Limited transparency: Splash Financial does not clearly disclose many important loan details upfront, including where in the 0% to 15% range your origination fee will fall, late payment fees or minimum borrower requirements. Because terms vary by lender, borrowers may need to progress through the application process before seeing key information.

Marketplace variability: Since Splash Financial is not the direct lender, the borrowing experience can vary significantly depending on which lending partner funds your loan. Customer service quality, fees and underwriting standards may differ across lenders.

Potential origination fees: Some partner lenders may charge origination fees of up to 15%, which reduce the amount of money you actually receive after funding. On a $10,000 loan at that rate you would receive $8,500.

No joint/cosigned loans: None of Splash's lending partners currently accept a cosigner on a personal loan. This may reduce approval odds for applicants with weaker credit histories or lower incomes.

No mobile app: Unlike many modern online lenders, Splash Financial does not offer a dedicated mobile app for managing personal loans, and their self-service portal draws criticism in the reviews that do exist.

Summary

With risk-free prequalification, large loan amounts and access to multiple lending partners through a single application, Splash Financial offers a convenient way to compare personal loan offers online. However, the marketplace structure means loan terms, fees and customer experience can vary considerably depending on the lender you are matched with, and much of that only becomes clear once you are far enough into the application to see real offers.
